MDA Car Show History
Wayne Balch has been show
coordinator for the MDA Car Show in Central Virginia since it's begining. It's held on the 2nd Saturday in August so
that all proceeds be turned over during the WRIC Channel 8 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon over Labor Day weekend. The total
raised for MDA to date totals over $220,000. Special Thanks goes to the many sponsors, good friends, and
the more than 28 car clubs that participated at the events each year and the many volunteers that have helped with all the work.
Wayne, Jr. has been the main sponsor every year. He has supported the event as the Owner of Balch Automotive and Collision, Inc.,
Auto Parts, Inc. and Balch Graphic's LTD of Chester, VA. Under his corporate policy of giving back to the community through his
"Care Enough to Share" program, he paid all expenses for the first five years, including awards, advertising, t-shirts, etc., while
allowing all the decisions regarding the show planning be made by the volunteers. Wayne received a letter from Jerry Lewis
thanking him for his support, along with a nice Plaque a couple years ago. All the volunteers and many families with relatives
affected by MD have written Wayne and thanked him over the past years. As several of the volunteers have
said several times, "Many thanks goes to Wayne; We couldn't do it without him!" This years show was presented on August 8, 2009,
at Richard Bland College located in Prince George County just outside of Petersburg, VA.
This show has become the Premier Show for the Richmond Metro/Tri-Cities Area.
