With the help on the Central Virginia Office of MDA, volunteers from other car clubs and individuals, this show was presented on August 8, 2009, with the help of Ashley Mauck, coordinator for MDA, and Wayne Balch, Sr., and all the "Friends of MDA and Jerry's Kids." They all worked together to present the Best Show in this area, even with the bad economy. The weather was just right and the campus grounds at Richard Bland College located in Petersburg, VA. were just perfect to have the event.

It was Officially Started with an Opening Ceremony with Wayne Balch giving the opening remarks and Introducing the American Legion Post 284 of Colonial Heights Color Guard. This was followed by the National Anthem with
These following:

  • Opening Prayer By Pastor Ron Woody
  • Remarks by Wayne Balch, Master of Ceremony

    Next:
  • Introduction and Remarks by Dr. James McNeer, President of Richard Bland College
  • Introduction of Andrea Shaver, District Director, and Ashley Mauck, Service Coordinator, Central Virginia Office of MDA.

There were approximately 240 vehicles at the show and some 30 vendors. The National Guard Helicopter did a fly over around 10 AM and landed across from the show. Elvis arrived around 12 noon by stretch limo and entertained the crowd. This again would be the biggest charity show in Virginia and raise more money for "Jerry's Kids" than any other. This show has raised over $220,000 since it's beginning in 1999. Figures will be availabe soon as to this years event.

These were the "Best of the Best" as one spectator remarked. Strosnider Chevrolet of Hopewell partnered wih us again this year. The quality of vehicles registered at our show this year was again just unreal.

Again this year, the money raised came from registration fees, raffle of the Chevrolet 350 Crate Engine, 50/50 ticket sales and the Live Auction consisting of lots of items donated by area businesses, friends of MDA.

It is just amazing what can be done once all the car clubs and auto/bike hobbyists in the community get involved and nobody cares who gets the credit!! This year there were over 28 car clubs represented and a total of $17,237.20 was raised to help patients in Virginia. Watch the "Jerry Lewis" Telethon on WRIC TV 8 on September 7 around 1:45 PM and see the check being released to help Jerry Kids. The credit go to the many hobbyists attending, our show sponsors, and the volunteers that gave their time to make it all happen.
    Thanks to our many sponsors!
